Celebrate the importance of soil data and information for World Soil Day 2024!

Soil data and information are essential for effective soil management. While soil data offers raw measurements, soil information interprets and synthesises data for policy and practical applications. By focusing on the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage”, World Soil Day 2025 recognises the importance of both, as they are a foundation to understanding soil’s characteristics and supporting informed decision-making.
Since 2014, every 5 December FAO organises the World Soil Day to celebrate and highlight the importance of healthy soils and their sustainable management within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP). The 2024 edition is particularly special for HoliSoils not only because it marks the tenth anniversary of this celebration, but also because the main theme is particularly close to the core objectives of the project. HoliSoils aims to develop a harmonized forest soil monitoring framework, as well as identifying and testing soil management practices aiming to mitigate climate change and sustain the provision of various ecosystem services essential for human livelihoods and well-being.
