HoliSoils to showcase findings at major Iberian ecology conference in Spain

The HoliSoils project will be prominently featured at the upcoming joint III meeting of the Iberian Ecological Society (SIBECOL) and the XVII National Conference of the Spanish Association of Terrestrial Ecology (AEET), held in Pontevedra, Spain, from 2 to 6 June 2025.

The conference unites over 600 researchers from the Iberian Peninsula, providing a key platform for sharing ecological research and fostering collaboration. This year’s theme, “Another science is possible: diversity, degrowth, and sustainability in ecological research,” reflects a growing emphasis on sustainability and inclusivity within the field.

Jorge Curiel Yuste (Basque Centre for Climate Change – BC3), WP leader in the project on soil resilience and recovery capacity after natural disturbances, will present new findings from HoliSoils in the Soil Biodiversity session (TSB-11) on Tuesday, 3 June, from 12:45 to 14:15. His talk, titled “Impacts of canopy disturbances in an oak forest on soil biodiversity increase with organism size,” will explore how forest canopy changes affect soil biodiversity, emphasising the role of organism size in these dynamics.

This presentation highlights HoliSoils’ contribution to advancing knowledge of soil ecosystems, which are key for forest health and ecosystem functioning.
